Duronio &
Stemper:
Pam Duronio wraps
her agile voice around such jazz standards as “Ain’t Misbehavin’” and
“Autumn Leaves” while guitarist Tim Stemper weaves gossamer, rhythmic
accompaniment. They have a pair of CDs to their credit,
Better Than Anything
and the Christmas collection
All is Calm, along with a popular residency at one of Walker’s Point’s most elegant
restaurants.
Mike Drew
Longtime Milwaukee jazz critic and columnist
“For
years, Pam Duronio and Tim Stemper have been among the very best jazz /
cabaret performers in the Milwaukee area. As their new CDs demonstrate, they
have improved with age.”
Unlimited Jazz, Ltd.
Pam Duronio
and
Tim Stemper have
issued two new CDs recently – one, a collection of Holiday music, is called
“All is Calm”. The second, mostly standards and improve jazz, is entitled
“Better Than Anything”. Pam has a really lovely voice and Tim does a great
job on guitar and drums. Info for
their CDs can be found at their Web site:

Pam Duronio &
Tim Stemper, Better Than Anything:
Pam Duronio adds a bit of mannerism to
her low-pitched throaty voice but nothing to excess. She's got a faintly
seductive style that makes a nice contrast to Tim Stemper's slick Jazzy
guitar....a major shift happens on "Amazing Grace". There Stemper plays
country blues on an acoustic guitar and Duronio turns her voice completely
loose with an eye-opening, soulful performance.

Pam Duronio &
Tim Stemper:
Excellent food and a
wonderful wine list compliment great jazz guitar and smooth vocal stylings
in trendy yet unpretentious setting. Am I dreaming or possibly in Manhattan?
No. I’m enjoying the music of Pam Duronio and Tim Stemper at Il Mito in
Walker’s Point. Duronio floats through great jazz standards in a smoky,
sultry style that evokes images of legendary singers both past and present.
Stemper’s rich “large hollow body” guitar sound provides the perfect
accompaniment. When asked about influences, Stemper mentions names probably
known only to aficionados of the genre. As for me, Les Paul, Lester Flatts,
Sade and Peggy Lee come to mind, but I am hesitant to make any direct
comparisons. This duo takes timeless music and creates a style that is
completely their own.

“The goal of every jazz musician is singularity. Pam and Tim achieve that
goal every time they take to a stage, and this CD truly represents them in
performance. However, they're not only unique, but expertly capture the
surprise and joy that is jazz and they swing like crazy!”
